If your hair fights you every morning — frizzing in the Houston humidity, taking forever to blow out smooth — a smoothing treatment can change your whole routine. I'm Misty Nicole, master stylist at With Love Hair Studio in Sugar Land, and after eighteen years behind the chair, smoothing and keratin treatments are some of my favorite services to perform, because the change is so immediate and so livable. Here's what they do, the options we offer, and how to know if one is right for you.
What a Smoothing Treatment Actually Does
A smoothing treatment relaxes the hair's natural texture and seals the surface so it lies down smoother, shinier, and far calmer than it does on its own. The result is less frizz, more shine, and dramatically less styling time — many clients find their blow-dry drops by half and that their hair behaves even on damp, sticky days. Just as importantly, a good treatment leaves the hair feeling softer and more conditioned, not stripped. The goal is never to force your hair pin-straight; it's to give you back control, so your natural texture becomes something you can work with instead of against.
These treatments suit a wide range of hair. They're a natural fit for frizz-prone, coarse, wavy, or curly hair, for anyone whose hair reacts to humidity, and for those who simply want to spend less time with hot tools each week. If your hair is fine or already quite straight but you battle flyaways and dullness, a lighter treatment can still add a beautiful, glassy finish. The best way to know which option fits is a quick consultation, where I assess your texture, density, and history.
Our Treatments
We offer three tiers of smoothing, so we can match the service to your hair and your goals rather than forcing one approach on everyone:
- Express Treatment — $100. A quick, conditioning smoothing service that knocks down frizz, boosts shine, and improves manageability. It's perfect when you want a noticeable refresh on a shorter timeline, or as an introduction to smoothing before committing to a longer service.
- Smoothing Treatment — from $250. Our full smoothing service. This is the deeper, longer-lasting option that meaningfully relaxes texture and tames frizz across the whole head, leaving hair sleek, soft, and easy to style for weeks. It typically takes around two to two-and-a-half hours depending on your hair.
- "Jean De Perle" 90–100% Frizz Removal — $400. Our premium treatment and the one to choose when you want near-total frizz elimination. The Jean De Perle service delivers the smoothest, most polished, longest-lasting result we offer — ideal for very frizzy, coarse, or unruly hair that you'd love to see transformed into something effortless.
What to Expect
Every smoothing service begins with a consultation. I look at your hair's texture, density, condition, and any color history, talk through how much frizz reduction you're after, and recommend the tier that will get you there. From there the process is methodical: your hair is cleansed and prepared, the smoothing formula is applied section by section, and it's sealed in with controlled heat so the surface lies flat and the shine sets. You'll leave with hair that feels immediately smoother and looks glassier — and the full payoff shows over the following days as everything settles.
Results generally last from several weeks to a few months, depending on which treatment you choose, your hair type, and how you care for it at home. The Express Treatment gives a lovely shorter-term refresh; the full Smoothing Treatment carries you considerably further; and the Jean De Perle, our most intensive option, holds onto that near-total smoothness the longest. A treatment gradually softens and grows out rather than leaving a harsh line, so the transition stays graceful.
Aftercare
Aftercare is what makes the difference between a treatment that fades quickly and one that stays beautiful. The single most important habit is switching to a sulfate-free shampoo and conditioner, which cleanse gently without scrubbing away the smoothing that's been sealed into your hair. Washing a little less frequently and going easy on high-heat tools both help your results last, too. Our salon-grade Opulence Oil Controlling Shampoo & Conditioner Set and "You're Essential" hair oil serum are gentle, smoothing-friendly choices I often recommend. For a deeper routine you can follow at home, see our guide to caring for color-treated and treated hair, which covers product and care guidance that pairs perfectly with a smoothing service.
Is It Right for You?
A smoothing treatment is likely a wonderful fit if you fight frizz, dread humidity, spend too long with a blow-dryer, or simply want softer, shinier, more cooperative hair day to day. If you love your natural curl pattern and want to keep it fully intact, we'll talk through how much relaxing is right so you keep the movement you love while losing the frizz you don't. And if you're not sure where you land, that's exactly what the consultation is for — there's no single right answer, only the option that fits your hair and your routine. Many clients pair a smoothing treatment with a fresh cut or with color or balayage for a complete refresh; you can always see the full service menu and prices or browse the gallery for inspiration.

Smoothing Treatment FAQs
How long does a smoothing treatment last?
Most clients enjoy smoother, frizz-free hair for several weeks to a few months. How long your results last depends on the treatment you choose, your hair type, and how you care for it at home — sulfate-free shampoo and gentle styling help the effect last as long as possible. Our most intensive option, the Jean De Perle treatment, delivers 90–100% frizz removal for the longest-lasting smoothness.
What is the difference between keratin and a smoothing treatment?
The two terms overlap. "Smoothing treatment" is the umbrella for any service that reduces frizz and relaxes texture, while keratin-style treatments coat the hair with smoothing proteins and conditioning agents that are sealed in with heat. At With Love Hair Studio, I offer three tiers — an Express Treatment, a full Smoothing Treatment, and the premium Jean De Perle for 90–100% frizz removal — and help you choose the right one in your consultation.
Does a smoothing treatment work on curly hair?
Yes. Smoothing treatments are well suited to curly, wavy, coarse, and frizz-prone hair. They're designed to relax texture and tame frizz rather than to force the hair perfectly straight, so your curls become looser, softer, and far easier to manage while still looking natural. I assess your texture in the consultation and recommend the tier that fits your goals.
How much does a smoothing treatment cost in Sugar Land?
At With Love Hair Studio, the Express Treatment is $100, the full Smoothing Treatment starts at $250, and the premium Jean De Perle 90–100% Frizz Removal is $400. All three are performed by me, master stylist Misty Nicole. Because pricing can vary with hair length and density, the best way to confirm your investment is a quick consultation.
How should I care for my hair after a smoothing treatment?
Use a sulfate-free shampoo and conditioner, wash a little less often, and protect the hair from excess heat to keep your results smooth and shiny for as long as possible. Our Opulence Oil Controlling Shampoo & Conditioner Set and "You're Essential" hair oil serum are gentle, salon-grade choices. For more guidance, see our guide to caring for color-treated and treated hair.
